Step 1. Realize

The first step to becoming a Christian is to realize you are lost and living in sin, dying and on your way to a devils hell.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God...

Whether you want to admit it or not, if you are not a servant of the Lord then you are a servant of Satan.

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other...

You know if you are a living right or not. And I don't mean that you are a good moral person. There will be alot of good moral people in hell. If you're not sure whether or not you're a Christian, I'll answer that for you. You are not. Believe me, once you have accepted Christ into your heart, you will know it.

II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Once you have come to terms with the fact that you are lost, you are then ready for the next step:

Step 2. Repent

Why should I repent?

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death...

And I'm not talking about a natural death either. I'm talking about spiritual death. Total seperation from God. Hell is a place so terrible, that you and I simply can't imagine it. Hell was created for Satan and those that follow him. It wasn't intended for you and I but because of sin that's where you're heading unless you repent. Some people think they are living in hell on earth. Friend, I can assure you, that nothing you can experience here, no matter how terrible, can compare to the tortures of Hell.

On the bright side, the rest of Romans 6:23 says...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Now I don't know about you, but given the choice of eternal death or eternal life, I think the choice is pretty easy. I choose life.
I admit it...living a Christian life isn't always easy. No one said it would be. Sometimes it's quite difficult. And it may not seem nearly as fun as your previous life. However the altenative is much worse. You may give up so called friends and habits. You may not get to hang around with your buddies at the bar, drinking and using drugs. Or maybe you never did those things. Maybe you are a good moral person or you have a little social status. Maybe you cheat a little on your taxes or flirt with the secretary at the water fountain, even though you're married. Sin is sin, my friend and it all leads to one place. Hell!
So let's say you decide to choose eternal life. How can we have eternal life, you ask?

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

God made eternal life possible for us through the sacrafice of his Son, Jesus.
I know, you're a really bad person, right? God can't possibly forgive you for what you've done. No matter how bad you are, God loves you. He will forgive even the worst sinner. He loves us all, drunkards, drug addicts, prostitutes, murderers, adulturers, thieves. You can't be so bad that God won't forgive you. You may still have to face man for what you've done wrong. You may have to suffer the consequences here on earth for your actions. But in eternity, where it really counts, you'll have eternal life. You'll be forgiven by simply repenting for what you've done wrong.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Step 3. Recieve

This is the easy part. Remember Romans 10:9?
You simply have to confess with your mouth that you believe Jesus is the Son of the Living God and that he died on the cross for our sins. That he was raised from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
Ask him to come into your heart and forgive your sins. Ask him to help you from this day forth, to live for him. That's it. It's that easy.
After you've accepted Christ into your life, it's a good idea to find a Christian Church and start attending regularly. Fellowship with your Christian brothers and sisters, will make your new walk with God much easier. Remember what I said earlier. This walk is not always easy. You may stumble and fall but remember that Jesus will always be there to pick you up, brush you off and help you back on the path to righteousness.
Don't keep you new found salvation a secret. Share it with others. Letting others know of your decision to follow Christ will help hold you accountable for your actions and you may help lead someone else to Christ. That my friend is the greatest thing you can do for your fellow man.
